One, Two, Skip a Few...Hello September!

Hey all! Well these past few months have sure flown by! Actually, they seemed to be moving very slowly, but once I was on the other side looking back, it seemed like the blink of an eye- if that makes sense. Weather-wise, I was told that August would be the hottest driest month of the year. August and July ended up being the coldest months with a few wet spells. I'm not complaining though! It has since returned to VERY hot this week! Anyway, I will try to keep this short since I'm sure you do not want to read every detail and it would take me too long to think back and try to remember everything! For the most part, I've been busy helping the teams from the States since they started coming in July. This year was the first year that teams bigger than 19 people came down (meaning they had to split in to two groups to take the little plane to Guayaramerin). The first team was around 30 people! They all stayed in Casa 3 where I live, and I enjoyed every minute of the company! I...

A Serenade for You! :)

Hello again amigos!! Well, I originally wanted to update my blog once a week and now its happening about once a month! So, sorry if it gets a little long, I will try to keep it interesting! So since the last time I've written  to you, nothing really dramatic happened. We received three sibling a couple weeks ago! You can definitely tell they were not brought up around Christians and need some extra discipline, but they seem to be adapting well! It is sweet to watch the other kids welcome them in and show them the ropes. The youngest comes to my youngest class (preschool age). The first day, he started throwing a fit when the helper who brought the kids to class tried to leave, so she took him back to his house. They tried again today and this time she closed the door before he could follow her out so he sat down on the floor, crying for his mom very loudly. I figured that he would not welcome me anywhere near him, so I thought I would try to keep the other kids' attention and j...

Time flies, but I prefer to travel by truck.

Wow! Has it really been three weeks since my last post? The week really do seem to fly by at a blink of an eye! Well let me catch you up on some recent happenings! First of all, we received a new child!! 8-month-old Anderson came to be with us last week. He was immediately content and happy (the toys and loving from the other children may have helped with that:) ). He continues to be a very happy baby and loves giving out the smiles! He came with a small case of bronchitis, but other than that he is a healthy little boy! I was told the home he came from couldn't feed him, so he came with a large appetite too! This past week, I got to go on another adventure. I am still in the process of getting my visa, and my time on my tourist visa that I have now is running out quickly! Last Tuesday, we were going to get things finalized for the visa. I needed to go to the Bolivian consul in Brazil to get a stamp or something in my passport. (I don't really know exactly what it is that I ...

An ipod keyboard is small, but my message is big!:)

Hi friends!  I know it has been a while since my last post! My computer is down and out and I was going to wait until I got it running again to write my post. However, its looking like I may not get it running again for a couple months until someone can send some new parts along with one of the teams. So between my ipod, the secretary's computer in the office, and sketchy internet connection I will continue my posts- hopefully regularly! :) (also, please excuse typos as it is hard to proofread on the small screen of my ipod.) The past couple weeks of school have been going as usual. The older classes have some verbs and prepositions down pat so we're working on putting the sentences together! This week we're working on explaining day to day activities. I feel like what I'm teaching is finally starting to stick in their brains. I was warned before I came down that they learn by repetition which is hard to do without boring the kids, so I've been tryin to keep thing...

Let's Go For a Paseo!

Hi everyone!! I hope this post finds you well! Things here have been going pretty smoothly. The weather has stayed cool except for 2 or 3 days that we had without rain. School is in full swing and I FINALLY got a schedule for my classes set in stone! I've been teaching in my own classroom, though I haven't been able to decorate it yet because I believe they are going to paint it yet. I went back and skimmed my last post to see how much I needed to catch you up on, and it seems that it has been a long time since the things in my last post have happened! So hopefully I will remember everything that's happened since then. Classes have been going pretty well. The oldest class is catching on the quickest. We had already worked on verbs and prepositions, so this week we worked on question words and common questions. Some of the younger classes are still working with a couple verbs and some others have started on prepositions. These kids are so bright! When they're paying at...

How are you living by faith?

Hola amigos! Hope you all are doing well! If not, maybe something in this post will lift your spirits! This past week has been pretty busy for me. This past weekend I got to do something I've been wanting to do since the first time I came here. I got to jump off the bridge into the river! We always drive over this bridge on the way to the farm. There are always many people washing clothes at this spot and there are always kids swimming and jumping off the bridge! It was as fun as it looked as long as you ignored the brown water you were swimming in! We did that for several hours and that night I was the most tired I had ever been and had scrapes on my legs from climbing out of the river. It was well worth it though! The new family for House 1 came to visit on Saturday and started on Monday! For those who don't know, House 1 lost their parents about a month ago due to situations which I won't expand on. So, since then, one of the women who usually just helps the parents ...

Why do you sing?

Hello friends! Hope all is well where you are! The weather here cooled down for about 2 days, which was a blessing, and then the heat returned with a vengeance! I hope all of  you in Los Estados are enjoying that cold weather I keep hearing about! I wouldn't mind some of that right now!;) Anyway, begin teaching my classes on February 4, so I have about a week yet to make preparations. In the meantime, I've been making lesson plans, playing with the kids, and helping where I can. Some of my devotional thought from this week: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all  your ways acknowledge him, and he will make you paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6 Am I acknowledging God in all  my ways? Do I keep Him in mind with everything I do? Is He the center of all I do? I should be mindful of Him in everything ! He wants to guide us along the right path for our lives, but we have to let Him do that. We have to choose to do every...
